The purpose of the UNOLS Chief Scientist Training Workshop is to instruct early career marine scientists, including PhD students, on how to effectively plan for, acquire, utilize and report on time at sea for multi-disciplinary research and education.
The 2012 Chief Scientist Training Workshop takes place from November 7-16 in San Diego CA and aboard the R/V New Horizon. The program will start with a one-day short course, followed by cruise mobilization, seven days at sea and cruise demobilization. The area of at sea operations will be within the Southern California Continental Borderland. This region encompasses a diverse expanse of continental shelf, slope and basin environments. The at-sea cruise plan will be dictated by the science requirements of the participants and assisted by two mentoring senior scientists and two marine technicians.
Special thanks to the National Science Foundation for making this program possible!
