I am a fourth year PhD student at the University of South Carolina interested in studying the impacts of anthropogenic carbon emissions on the oceans. I plan on analyzing the geochemistry of marine sediments collected as a part of the Chief Scientist in Training Program. I am specifically interested in using the chemical signatures (B/Ca) preserved in fossil calcium carbonate shells of zooplankton called planktonic foraminifera to estimate how pH has changed over the last century.
