I am a biological oceanographer fascinated by high latitude marine ecosystems. I’m particularly interested in the way the physical environment (atmosphere, ocean, ice) influences phytoplankton primary production and community composition, and how these various components of the Earth System interact. My research intertwines ship-based field work along with lab analyses and satellite data processing. I’m currently studying the consequences of melting of the Greenland Ice Sheet on coastal ecosystems at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution after getting my PhD at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. While this training cruise along the California Current takes me far away from the ice-covered oceans I usually study, it is giving me an opportunity to collaborate with a wide array of early career scientist in exploring physical controls over phytoplankton growth along the California Coast, knowledge I’ll be able to apply to my high latitude studies.
