Science meeting

lab_meeting_cartoonOne of the fun aspects of this cruise is the diversity of scientists on board. Every night we have a science meeting, in which we discuss any potential changes in sampling plans, problems that might have cropped up during the day, etc. We also have a little seminar: each night two or three of the scientists aboard give a little talk about their work. This is maybe the most fun part of the trip for me – I’ve learned a lot so far. Here, geophysicist Will Fortin shows how he can use acoustic data (i.e., the echoes from big noises) to create images of the structure of water masses in the ocean.
